Inheritance & Gift Tax Calculator
Estimate inheritance or gift tax by subtracting deductions and applying progressive rates.
Basic deductions only. Spouse deduction etc. are separate — confirm exact tax at Hometax.
How is it calculated?
Inheritance and gift tax share the same progressive rates (10% up to 100M won base, rising to 50% above 3B). For a gift the base is 'gift − gift deduction'; for inheritance it's 'estate − deductions'. Filing on time gives a 3% filing tax credit. This tool follows that flow.
Gift deductions (10-year basis)
- From a spouse: 600M won
- Adult lineal descendant (e.g., adult child): 50M won (minor child: 20M won)
- Other relatives (within the 6th degree): 10M won
- Multiple gifts from the same person within 10 years are summed against the limit.
Things to note
- This is a simple calculation with basic deductions only. Inheritance also has a spouse deduction, financial-asset deduction, and more that can greatly reduce the tax.
- Generation-skipping surcharges and special regimes are not reflected.
- Confirm exact figures with the NTS Hometax calculator or a tax accountant.

Are the inheritance and gift tax rates the same?
Yes. Both use the same progressive table: 10% up to 100M won, 20% to 500M, 30% to 1B, 40% to 3B, 50% above. Deduction rules differ, so the actual tax differs.
How much can a parent gift a child tax-free?
An adult child can receive up to 50M won over 10 years (a minor up to 20M) under the gift deduction, tax-free within that limit. Between spouses the deduction is 600M won.
What is the 3% filing credit?
Filing inheritance/gift tax yourself by the legal deadline cuts 3% off the computed tax. This tool shows the estimated payable after that. Missing the deadline can add penalties.
Can I just pay this amount?
It's a reference. Inheritance especially has many deductions that change the result. Verify with the official Hometax calculator or a tax accountant.
